Prakriti (body constitution)
Every individual’s psychosomatic temperament or body constitution is determined by these three doshas at the time of fertilization. When the embryo is formed the body constitution (prakriti) is determined.
There are seven basic body types according to Ayurveda. Vata, Pitta, Kapha, Vata-pitta, Pitta-kapha, Kapha-vata, Vata-pitta-kapha. Every individual’s constitution has its own balance of Vata – Pitta – Kapha.
Vrikriti (disbalance doshas)
When the balance of elements in the body is disturbed, the man gets sick. Vrikriti is an imbalance that sows the seed of disease. An important goal of Ayurveda is to understand a person’s vikriti and then understand what aspects of a person’s environment have contributed to the disturbance. Regardless of a person’s constitution, a person can have an imbalance in any dosha. Imbalances are created by the environment a person finds him or herself in and their lifestyle.
The goal of the diagnostic process is to discover disbalances. Ayurveda mainly offers three kinds of treatments: Ayurvedic herbal preparations (dietary supplements), a diet with a controlled lifestyle, and pancha-karma. Ayurvedic herbal preparations are mainly made in the form of powders, tablets, creams with added essential oil, minerals, and the like.
